Privacy Policy

This policy applies to current versions of the SCOPE Android app (com.kalmix.scope). Its developer is KALMIX, and the app is operated by Shanghai IOTARS Co., Ltd.

SCOPE does not require a SCOPE account and does not display advertising. Credentials for an NTRIP service are separate from SCOPE and are issued by your NTRIP provider.

KALMIX does not operate a server that receives your location, logs or settings from the app, and we do not sell personal data. The sections below explain local processing and the information provided to your configured NTRIP service, Mapbox, other apps receiving Mock Location, or recipients you choose when sharing files.

Data stored and processed on your device

Receiver data

SCOPE reads data from a USB-connected GNSS receiver to display position, altitude, time, speed, direction, satellites, positioning quality and related measurements. These data may reveal your precise location. Incoming correction data can be forwarded to the connected receiver.

Settings and credentials

Device and logging preferences are stored locally. When the NTRIP Save option is enabled, SCOPE also saves connection settings and credentials. Saved NTRIP passwords are encrypted using AES-GCM with a key managed by Android Keystore. Other settings, including host, mountpoint and username, are not protected by this password-encryption mechanism.

Turning Save off removes the persisted NTRIP settings. The current settings can remain in memory during the session.

Logs, points and tracks

Recording options can save receiver data, correction streams, captured-point data, track data and system events in app-specific storage. Enabled recording preferences may apply to subsequent sessions. Recent recorded tracks can persist across restarts, with older points replaced as the history limit is reached.

System logs can include device and app information, connection details, NTRIP usernames, timestamps and captured coordinates.

Local error logs

Errors and uncaught exceptions can automatically create local diagnostic logs even when other recording options are off. These files stay on your device; the app does not automatically upload them to KALMIX or anyone else. Review files before copying or sending them to anyone.

NTRIP connections and position transmission

When you request a source table or connect to an NTRIP caster, SCOPE communicates with the server you configure. That server receives your IP address, connection request and any authentication credentials you supply. This information is used to obtain the source table or correction service.

When Send GGA is enabled, SCOPE periodically sends available receiver GGA sentences to the caster. These can include precise coordinates, altitude, time and fix information. Send GGA is enabled by default in a fresh configuration because many correction services require it. You can disable it in the Source settings before connecting.

Connection security: SCOPE currently connects to NTRIP casters using unencrypted TCP, including HTTP Basic authentication where credentials are supplied. Base64 encoding is not encryption. Credentials and transmitted location data may be readable by parties able to observe that connection. Encryption of a saved password on your device does not encrypt its transmission. Consider this limitation before using an NTRIP connection.

The caster operator controls its own handling and retention of received data. Review that provider's privacy policy and contact the provider about data it holds. Disconnect NTRIP to stop the active connection and its position transmissions.

Maps and Mapbox telemetry

SCOPE uses the Mapbox Maps SDK to display maps. Loading online map content sends requests to Mapbox, including your IP address and information about the requested map resources. Requested map areas can correspond to the receiver position or track you are viewing.

The SDK also includes telemetry. Depending on SDK operation and your telemetry choice, Mapbox may receive usage events, app/SDK and device information, and SDK-generated identifiers. SCOPE displays external-receiver positions and tracks using map rendering; it does not enable the Mapbox device-location component. This does not mean map use is entirely offline or that all map-related information remains on your device.

Use the map's information/attribution control, near the Mapbox logo, to access Mapbox's telemetry opt-out. Opting out of telemetry does not prevent the network requests needed to load online maps.

See the Mapbox Privacy Policy and Mapbox Telemetry for details about Mapbox's processing and privacy choices.

Mock Location and permissions

Mock Location is optional. If you select SCOPE as the mock location app in Android Developer options and enable the feature in SCOPE, the app supplies receiver coordinates and related measurements to Android's location providers: GPS, network and, on supported Android versions, fused.

Other apps permitted to use location may then receive those positions. Those apps control their own use and transmission of that information. Turn off Mock Location in SCOPE to stop supplying these positions.

SCOPE requests USB access for receiver communication and uses network access for NTRIP and online maps. It does not request access to your phone's own location, but it does process the precise location supplied by the connected GNSS receiver.

A foreground service and notification can keep an active receiver or correction session running while you use other apps. Stop active connections and recording when they are no longer needed.

Retention, deletion and copies

Saved settings and logs remain in app-specific storage until removed or the app's data is cleared. Recent track history is limited and can also be cleared using the map's Clear track control.

  • Clear recent track history: this does not delete separate NMEA, project or system log files.
  • Remove stored app data: use Android Settings > Apps > SCOPE > Storage > Clear storage, or uninstall SCOPE. This removes settings and app-specific files.
  • Copies outside SCOPE: clearing app data or uninstalling does not remove files previously copied elsewhere or information already received by another service.

SCOPE disables Android app-data cloud backup and device-to-device transfer in its backup configuration. Copies you create yourself, or store with another app or storage provider, are outside that configuration.

Mapbox, your NTRIP provider, other apps receiving mock positions, and recipients of files you share have their own retention and deletion practices. Removing SCOPE does not delete their copies.

Support requests

If you send us an email or diagnostic files for support, we receive the contact information and content you choose to send and use them only to address your request. Support correspondence is retained only as needed to handle the request and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations.

Contact service@kalmixtech.com to request deletion of support information, subject to any retention required by law.

Children

SCOPE is a professional GNSS and surveying utility and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
